Police say the residents came out to confront the suspects, but the suspects then got into the car, which had been reported stolen out of Chicago. The residents told police that one person pointed a gun at one of the residents and fired a shot before the car fled the scene.
Darien police later tried to stop the car, but the driver refused to stop. The pursuit later involved the Illinois State Police as the car went on to northbound I-55.
