Community Corner
Thank you for lending a helping hand in 2017!
You are giving a chance for a brighter tomorrow and an opportunity to help shoulder burdens and responsibilities.
By Janell Robinson, Executive Director of Hope's Front Door
Last year, you helped over 5,980 adults and children access basic essentials such as food, transportation, medication, vision and oral healthcare. Not only that, your support was instrumental in helping Hope’s Front Door host several new workshops aimed at increasing financial literacy and encouraging healthy lifestyle changes.

Mary Anne and her family have been homeless for the last year, but feel hopeful for the future.
“My husband and I are really depending upon each other to make it, to move out of being homeless. Organizations like Hope’s Front Door help a lot because we don’t have family that can help. It is difficult sometimes to be in the shelters and get my daughters to school on time. The transportation vouchers we get here have really given us a chance to improve our living situation.

With the gas vouchers, we can get the girls to school and go to the shelters, but more importantly it helps my husband get to work. My husband found a job six months ago. We don’t want to live pay check to pay check, so we are planning on saving and improving our credit score by entering Hope’s Front Door’s budgeting program. Next year, we plan to have our own apartment!”
An Opportunity
Velva, a mother of four, visited Hope’s Front Door the day before Thanksgiving for food vouchers.
“With it being the holidays, I wanted the kids to have something to eat at home. My son was born with cerebral palsy last year and it changed everything. I had a job that I could not go back to and care for him at the same time. He goes to the occupational therapist twice a week and the physical therapist twice a week. The HFD gas vouchers helps to get him back and forth to those appointments. Sometimes you fall short and there are times when you just don’t have the means and you have exhausted all of your resources. The food and gas vouchers come in handy.
I am looking for a third shift job opportunity. I need to find work that will allow me to be available for my son during the day. The emailed weekly Job Lists and the Pathway to Employment Program at Hope’s Front Door presents me with opportunities. “
