Concerts at Fishel Park, classic car shows and a farmer's market are among the family-friendly things to do in Downers Grove in early August

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Downtown Downers Grove has an assortment of events planned for the whole family as summer comes to a close. Here are some fun things to do in Downers Grove the first week of August.

August 1

Summer Concert Series at Fishel Park, 7 p.m.

The Downers Grove Summer Concert Series is in full swing, with live music at Fishel Park every Tuesday at 7 p.m. On August 1, the Second Hand Soul Band will take the stage for a family-friendly set at the park, which is located at the intersection of Grove and Main Street.

August 2

Wednesday Morning Movie At Tivoli Theater, 10 a.m.

Get the kids up bright and early on Wednesday to catch a flick at Tivoli Theater, located at 5021 Highland Avenue. The weekly summer event starts at 10 a.m. and admission is just $1. The August 2 movie is not announced beforehand, so the whole family will be in for a surprise.

Paint Nite and Open Mic At Ballydole, 7 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Ballydoyle Irish Pub will host a paint night and open mic on August 2. Guests are invited to practice their painting skills at 7 p.m. regardless of their level of experience. Supplies will be provided and each class is taught by a professional painter.

The creative juices will keep flowing at 8 p.m. for an open mic night hosted by local artist Dave Kelly.

August 4

Summer Nights Classic Car Show, Downtown, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The weekly Summer Nights Classic Car Show will line the street's of downtown Downers Grove on Friday, August 4. In addition to other antique autos and hot rods, residents can see an assortment of pony cars, the featured vehicle for August 4. Live entertainment will be provided by Zazz.

August 5

Downtown Market, 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Residents can pick up fresh fruits and veggies, home-baked goods and handmade crafts at the weekly Downtown Market. If all the browsing makes you hungry, you can grab a fresh-cooked crepe, sandwich, or baked goodie. Indian Boundary YMCA's downtown market is open at the Downers Grove Main Street Station every Saturday through October 21.
