'Truly A Rock Star': Downers Grove Star Student

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

How do you know the star local student?

He is a student volunteer with me.

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?

Will has always volunteered at the the West Suburban Community Pantry on his own, with his family and with fellow high school friends. Last October, Will approached me about wanting to create a Junior Board made of of high school students from our geographic area as a way to get more help to the Pantry, have fundraisers to support the Pantry, and create a sense of philanthropy in young people. Will’s vision and commitment have been extraordinary. He has built something out of an idea and now the Junior Board is taking off in an incredible way with many young people across over five high schools. I am so proud of Will for having this idea and making it happen. He is a busy high school student but still is making time to create this incredible effort of support and compassion for neighbors in need. He is truly a rock star.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?

His passion for others runs deep and it motivates to take action. That is a powerful combination for change. Will is a change agent for the Pantry, his friends, and his community as well as all of those who will be better served bc of him.
