Washington Street Apartment Building Fire Causes $70,000 in Damage
Tuesday afternoon fire on second floor of apartment building at 5107 Washington Street was extinguished within 20 minutes of fire crews arriving on scene.

A fire in an apartment building at 5107 Washington Street Tuesday afternoon caused an estimated $70,000.
According to the , the initial notification came in at 1:40 p.m. and was followed by numerous 911 calls including reports of heavy smoke on the second floor of the building.
The DGFD arrived on scene at 1:43 p.m. but did not see any smoke or fire showing from the exterior of the building.

Tenants were evacuated as the DGFD entered the apartment building and followed heavy smoke to the fire's origins in a second-floor apartment. The fire was extinguished by 2:03 p.m. with all residents except for the residents of the apartment the fire started in and an adjacent apartment able to return to their apartments by 4:30 p.m.
According to a release from the DGFD, a seven-year-old boy heard the alarms in the hall of his apartment and woke his father to tell him they needed to get outside. The cause of investigation is still under investigation.
