West Suburban Humane Society Hires Doug Grier as Humane Educator

Grier will implement humane education programs to inspire children and adults in the community

West Suburban Humane Society (WSHS www.wshs-dg.org) in Downers Grove has hired Doug Grier as the new Humane Education Manager for the shelter. The primary duties of this position include planning, implementing, and managing the Humane Education programs which work to inspire children and adults in the community to demonstrate compassion towards all animals to reduce the number of unwanted, abused, and neglected animals in the community.

“Doug will be a tremendous asset for our shelter, as he has a proven track record in developing and implementing education and community programming for people of all ages, plus he is a huge animal advocate,” stated Carolyn Mossberger, Executive Director of WSHS.

Most recently, Grier served as the Dean for Community Education at Waubonsee Community College (2008-2018). Before that, he was the Manager of Continuing Education for Personal and Cultural Enrichment at Harper College. Grier has held various positions in higher education, non-profit management, arts marketing and as an account manager with a Chicago based marketing agency where he worked with clients such as Tree Top, Guinness, Skil-Bosch, Keebler, and the Wisconsin Dairy Council. In 2016, Grier completed a second master’s degree in Integrated Marketing Communication at Roosevelt University. A 1984 graduate of Penn State University (Psychology), Grier also holds a master’s degree in Student Affairs Administration from Bowling Green State University.
