3 SWAT Officers Wounded, Suspect Dead In South Elgin Shootout
A four-hour standoff in South Elgin left three SWAT officers wounded and the suspect dead.

SOUTH ELGIN, IL — Three police officers were shot and one suspect is dead after a four-hour standoff in South Elgin, according to reports. WLS reported police responded to the 300 block of Woodridge Circle soon before 11 p.m. Tuesday to a report of shots fired.
Police arrived and Frank Dripps, 52, fired at least two rounds at them with a shotgun, WLS reports. Neighbors were evacuated and two SWAT teams were deployed to the scene.
"I don't know all the back and forth, all I know is he had tried to speak with the officers and he initially told our officers that if they came near him, he would shoot them," said South Elgin Police Sergeant Mike Doty, according to WLS.

Police were trying to negotiate, but said Dripps began to shoot again around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday. Three Kane County SWAT officers were wounded. Dripps was shot dead.
The Elgin Courier-News reported the the three wounded officers were taken to Presence Saint Joseph Hospital, all with non-life-threatening injuries.
