Bus Aide Knocks Out Teeth Of Student With Special Needs: Charges

KANE COUNTY, IL — A Burlington Central School District 301 school bus aide faces charges for striking a student who has special needs in the face and knocking two of his teeth out, prosecutors said Thursday. The circumstances leading to the violent act began on the morning of Oct. 2 while the child, who is younger than 13 years old, got onto his bus and asked for a juice box.

The boy refused to move from the bus steps after the school bus aide, Jean M. Micklevitz, 63, told him no food or drink was allowed on the bus, authorities said. Micklevitz allegedly proceeded to grab him and drag him to his seat.

She then hit him multiple times in the face, according to the news release from the Kane County State's Attorney's Office.

On Wednesday, a $30,000 warrant was issued for Micklevitz's arrest, prosecutors said. Mickelvitz, who is charged with aggravated battery of a child, was arrested Thursday afternoon and posted her $3,000 bond before being released from jail.

If convicted, Micklevitz, of the 300 block of South Street in Burlington, faces a sentence of between two and five years in prison. In addition, Micklevitz would be required register for 10 years as a violent offender against youth in accordance with the Illinois Violent Offender Against Youth Act.
