Discover the Future of Electric Vehicles at Elgin Community College
The EV Technology Open House will be held on October 14, from 4 to 6 pm at ECC's new Manufacturing and Technology Center.

Elgin Community College (ECC) will host an EV Technology Open House on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, from 4 to 6 pm at ECC’s new Manufacturing and Technology Center, 1600 Spartan Drive in Building S, Room S111.
The free event will allow community members to explore electric vehicle technology and learn how electrification is shaping careers in transportation, energy, manufacturing, and public safety. Faculty from automotive technology, fire service, and green energy technology will be available to discuss career pathways and the skills needed to work with emerging technologies.
“Elgin Community College’s EV Open House will showcase the broader electrification ecosystem and the growing range of careers it supports, from automotive technicians and electricians to manufacturers, first responders, and energy specialists,” said Tyler O’Donnell, associate dean of sustainability, business and career technology at ECC. “As electrification continues to transform our communities and workforce, ECC is committed to preparing students with the knowledge and hands-on skills needed to meet these emerging demands.”

The open house will feature an EV high-voltage battery demonstration, an EV display and car show, and conversations about battery safety and charging infrastructure. Participants can also learn about the connections between electric vehicles and renewable energy.
“This open house will bring together the community so members can explore the technology, careers, and opportunities that are shaping this region’s electrified future,” O’Donnell said.
