New school year brings big changes for Elgin U-46 School District (abc7chicago.com) — Families in Elgin's U-46 district are seeing big changes as classes start, including reopening Illinois Park as an elementary school and moving 6th graders into middle schools like Kenyon Woods. Preschool programs are expanding to 26 buildings, and Larkin High finally gets its own on-campus athletic field. All of this stems from a $179 million bond approved by voters.

Suburban school district's cell phone ban now covers even younger students (nbcchicago.com) — Families in Elgin and South Elgin with U-46 middle schoolers will see stricter rules on student phones this year, as the district's existing ban now extends down to 6th grade. Students must lock phones, smartwatches, and tablets in special pouches during the school day, ahead of a broader statewide "bell-to-bell" ban coming to all Illinois K–8 schools in 2027.
