Second Annual Poetry & Literacy Festival During National Poetry Month

In partnership with The Gail Borden Library Foundation, The Literacy Connection Presents "Writing Down Our Roots"

Join The Literacy Connection for our 2nd annual Poetry & Literacy Festival sponsored by the Gail Borden Public Library Foundation!! This year's event will take place Saturday, April 25th, from 3pm-7:30pm at Elgin Community College. It will feature workshops, a guest speaker, and an Open Mic & Poetry Slam Competition. All are invited to celebrate National Poetry Month while also helping raise important funds for adult literacy in Elgin and surrounding areas.

The festival will feature prizes for Poetry Slam winners, raffles, and author and poet books for sale. Participants and audience members will surely enjoy the lively poetry slam in which two local poets and an educator will judge the best spoken word performance of the night.

The festival schedule is as follows (all in Building F at ECC):

4pm - Adult/Individual Workshop "Origin Stories' led by Elgin Poet Laureate Emeritus, Chasity Gunn

5pm - Guest speaker, award-winning poet & YA author, Julian Randall

6:15pm - Open Mic (sign up prior to event)

6:45pm - Poetry Slam & Awards (sign up prior to event)

Tickets are on sale now! Purchase a ticket for a single event or a day pass for all events. Prices listed on the website. Student rate tickets are also available.
