Woman Sentenced In Arson That Forced 2 To Leap From 2nd Floor
The Elgin woman stabbed a woman, tried to suffocate her and then started her townhome on fire when she fled upstairs.

ROSELLE, IL -- A 30-year-old Elgin woman received a lengthy prison sentence for attacking a woman in July 2017, trying to suffocate her with a plastic bag and then starting her Roselle townhome on fire, forcing the woman to leap from the second floor of the building. Chavez Odio, 30, pleaded guilty to attempted murder and aggravated arson in connection with the attack and has been sentenced to 28 years in prison, prosecutors said.
Authorities say Chavez entered a townhome on Circle Avenue in Roselle at about 2 a.m. and confronted a woman inside the residence, according to a news release from the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office. After a verbal altercation, Odio allegedly stabbed the woman with a sharp knife-like object before trying to suffocate her with the bag. The woman was able to break free and ran to an upstairs room, according to prosecutors.
Odio then started a fire on the first floor of the townhouse and fled in her vehicle. A woman and another person at the townhome were forced to jump from the second floor of the building to escape the blaze, according to authorities.
