$105K To Fix Elmhurst's Sinkhole On Route 83
The state would like the city to fix the problem as soon as possible, an official said.

ELMHURST, IL – Elmhurst aldermen on Monday approved $105,000 to fix a sinkhole on the shoulder of Route 83.
"There is a sinkhole on Route 83 caused by water leaking from a hole in the storm sewer, which was discovered by one of our cameras," Alderwoman Emily Bastedo said at a City Council meeting.
So the state Department of Transportation, she said, would like the city to fix the problem as soon as possible.

"We have weather coming, and the conditions are not favorable for the sinkhole on 83," Bastedo said.
The council fast-tracked its usual process to approve the money Monday. The vote was unanimous, with Alderwoman Jennifer Veremis absent.

The sinkhole is just north of the railroad bridge and south of the quarry entrance on the northbound lane's right shoulder, according to the city.
