2 Elmhurst Businesses' Workers Threatened: Cops

In another case, an employee made alarming statements in a local business, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving threats to businesses, alarming statements, a chronic nuisance warning, a battery, a suspected violation of a court order, fraud and a marijuana plant. Here is information from the latest police reports:

Threats

  • An employee of Semblex, 388 W. Carol Lane, received a threatening text message from a former employee about 9:30 p.m. Sunday. The suspect was issued a no-trespass notice and asked not to contact anyone at Semblex.
  • An employee of Ebel's Ace Hardware, 1028 S. York St., received a threatening message from someone about 3 p.m. Monday. An investigation is pending.

  • An employee at Bella Terrace Elmhurst nursing home, 420 W. Butterfield Road, made alarming statements to another employee about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. The witness was uncooperative and did not want to speak to officers. The nursing home said it would fire the employee who made the statements.

Chronic nuisance

  • A chronic nuisance warning was issued Tuesday to a household in the 800 block of Hillside Avenue. It was unclear which household received the notice. Just a few days before, a resident on the block was arrested for the second year in a row for growing marijuana in public view, police said.

Battery

  • During an argument, someone struck a woman about 10 a.m. Tuesday in the 1200 block of South York Street. Officers were unable to find the suspect. An investigation is pending.

Suspected violation

  • A resident in the 600 block of West Gladys Avenue told police that a man was in violation of a court order when he went to her house about 8 p.m. Tuesday. Police found that the man was not in violation of the order because he had not yet been served.

Fraud

  • The Container Store, 953 N. Larch Ave., told police Wednesday that a former employee had been using a company-issued credit card to make unauthorized personal purchases. The suspect also has company tools. An investigation is pending.

Marijuana plant

  • A resident in the 800 block of Hillside Avenue told police Wednesday that she found an uprooted marijuana plant on the parkway. An officer placed it into evidence for safekeeping. Last week, a resident on the block was arrested for the second year in a row for growing marijuana in public view, police said.
