“Brian E Wagner Scholarship Awarded to Four Emerging Leaders”

Brian Wagner's spirit burns bright within the potential of scholarship recipients who honor his legacy.

The BEWSF (Brian E. Wagner Scholarship Fund) proudly awarded scholarships to seniors from four different high schools: Fenwick, ICCP, Timothy Christian and York. The foundation’s annual tradition grants college funding to exemplary students who have pro-actively served their community through dedicated volunteer service. The BEWSF’s mission aims to encourage high school students to serve as leaders by exercising sound judgment and making a positive impact in their lives and the lives of others. Brian Edwin Wagner tragically passed away in 1993 at the age of 16, he dedicated much of his life assisting his peers and neighbors. Brian’s legacy is commemorated by this scholarship program.

Allison Lang (Fenwick High School) will be majoring in Nursing and will attend St. Louis University. She plans on being part of intramural volleyball and the outdoor adventure club. Allison stated,” I am honored to receive this award that remembers Brian E. Wagner, someone who was so dedicated to achieving his goals and being active in his community. It is my intention to live my life like he would have lived his by working hard in school and staying involved in community service. My long-term goals are to become a Nurse Practitioner and to join the Peace Corps.”

Michael Liszka (ICCP) was accepted to the University of Kentucky with a major in Special Education. He declared, "It is a great honor and privilege to receive the Brian Wagner Scholarship. I see many similarities between myself and him. We are both leaders in the classroom and in sports. I will continue to honor his legacy and make a positive influence on others through volunteer opportunities while in college. I will also continue my leadership while playing collegiate hockey.”

Rachel Stoll (Timothy Christian High School) will major in nursing. At Calvin College she will be participating in intramurals, student activities committee, and the art collaborative group. Rachel commented, “It’s hard to put into words how grateful and blessed I feel to have received this scholarship in the name of someone who emulated hard work and leadership in such a strong way. I hope to maintain Brian’s legacy of shining a light of positivity and encouragement.”

Eileen King (York High School) has enrolled to Marquette University and will likely declare her major in Broadcasting or Journalism. She said, “I am so honored to receive this award. The BEWSF's mission really resonates with me and will allow me to carry out Brian's legacy into future endeavors. Being a well-rounded person who lives in the moment can be hard to do sometimes, but this award will remind me to stay grounded and live life to the fullest.”
