Bryan Middle School Math Team Continues Successful Season

The Bryan Math Team continues to place well and win in competitions.

ELMHURST, IL — The Bryan Middle School Math Team continues its successful season, placing high in two recent competitions. According to the district, their six-person team placed second overall in its division at the Fenwick competition held on Nov. 11, and they took first place at the Immaculate Conception College Prep contest held on Nov. 18.

The district said 11 students from Bryan Middle School participated in the 33rd annual American Mathematics Competitions 8 on Nov. 21. The purpose of the AMC 8 is to spur interest in mathematics and develop talent through the excitement of friendly competition at problem solving in a timed format. Students had 40 minutes to complete 25 math problems.

Top scores from Bryan included eighth grader Magnus Mikhail in third place, eighth graders Charlie Scanlon and Andrew Brooks who tied for second place, and seventh grader Luke Lestina in first place. According to the district, Lestina's score also ranked him in the top 5 percent nationally. Bryan Math Team coaches are Heather Bolur and Tara Nunes.
