Lincoln School, Center For Gifted Hold STEaMFESTs In Elmhurst
Students in third, fourth and fifth grade will participate in STEaMFEST on Thursday, March 1 from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
ELMHURST, IL — Lincoln Elementary School recently held its second annual STEaMFEST for kindergarten, first and second grade students. STEaM stands for science, technology, engineering, arts and math. According to the district, the Lincoln PTA partners with Midwest Torrance Center for Creativity, The Center for Gifted to put on this annual event and give District 205 students opportunities to participate in experiments in each of those fields.
The district said this year’s theme was “Did You Ever Wonder? Marvels in Nature” and consisted of six different science, technology, engineering, arts or math-themed experiments. The students were able to get hands-on by making a “cloud in a bottle” and a homemade thermometer. Students were also able to experience how images can be reversed using water. They also created indoor rainbows by reflecting light onto the ceiling, and made a “sunset in a glass” by using different wavelengths of light.
The district said evening ended with each student making a tornado in a bottle. This experiment focused on the "a" or "art" in STEaM, as the kids showed their creativity in the art supplies selected for their individual tornados.
