Conroy Honors Local Founder of Chicago Ride for Autism Speaks

Conroy commemorates local woman for her dedication to helping children with autism.

VILLA PARK, Ill. – State Rep. Deb Conroy, D-Villa Park, attended the Annual Chicago Ride for Autism Speaks Rally on Sunday and presented one of the Ride’s founders, Diane Gedik of Carol Stream, with a certificate to commemorate her dedication to helping children with autism.

“Diane has been a tireless advocate for the autism community in Illinois,” Conroy said. “I had the privilege of meeting Diane when she came to Springfield earlier this summer to testify in front of the House on the devastating effects of the governor’s veto of funding for The Autism Project. I saw then that she is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to advocacy and awareness for children with autism and I stand with her in support of these vital services.”

The Chicago Ride for Autism Speaks has raised millions of dollars to help fund research and support for Autism Speaks. Thousands of riders participated in this year’s ride.

Currently, Illinois’ program for families of children with autism, The Autism Project (TAP) has not received any state funding since June. Without any state funding, providers have reduced staffing levels and drastically cut or eliminated services.
