Construction Outfit Bank Robber Arrested In Elmhurst: Police
Police said the 37-year-old Hillside man last week tried to rob a grocery store bank branch with a note while wearing a worksite outfit.
ELMHURST, IL — The man who tried to rob the TCF Bank in the Jewel-Osco at 1500 Lee St. in Des Plaines Wednesday in a construction outfit was arrested two days later and charged with attempted robbery, police said. Juan Corona, 37, of the 300 block of Clayton Drive in Hillside, was arrested Friday at 1:10 p.m. in the 100 block of Route 83 in Elmhurst after he was identified by Des Plaines police detectives, according to Cmdr. Christopher Mierzwa.
Shortly after noon on Wednesday, Corona walked over to a teller at the grocery store bank branch and passed a note demanding all the money from the register, according to police.
The teller read the note, turned to a co-worker and activated the bank's panic alarm, Mierzwa said. Corona was apparently startled by the teller's response and fled the scene without taking any cash.

As of Monday, Corona was being held at Cook County Jail in lieu of a $3,000 cash portion of his bond. He is due back in court Tuesday, according to the sheriff's office.
