Darien Sees Lowest Growth In Virus Cases In Months: County

DARIEN, IL — The growth in Darien's coronavirus cases was the slowest in months last week.

As of Sunday, Darien had 1,331 coronavirus cases, up 47 from a week before, or a 3.7 percent increase, according to the DuPage County Health Department. The previous two weeks' increases were 4.5 percent and 7.5 percent.

The number of local deaths from the coronavirus increased by one in the last week, to 17. That works out to less than a thousandth of Darien's population.

The number of those who have recovered is unavailable.

Darien's rate of increase in coronavirus cases of 3.7 percent was a bit higher than DuPage County's 3.6 percent hike in the last week. Darien makes up 2.3 percent of the county's population, but only 2 percent of the county's coronavirus caseload.

As of Sunday, Darien had 61.5 coronavirus cases per thousand people, better than most of its neighbors. The figure compares to 60.1 in La Grange Park, 63.3 in Western Springs, 66.1 in Hinsdale, 70.7 in DuPage County, 72.1 in Elmhurst, 74.3 in Clarendon Hills, 77.9 in suburban Cook County, 80.9 in Burr Ridge and 87.4 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands).

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 1,064,667, up 4 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 18,179 state residents.

Nationally, 23.7 million people have caught the virus, up 7.5 percent from the week before. A total of 394,495 people have died from the virus in the United States.
