District 205 Schools Hold Veterans Day Assemblies
Two District 205 schools will hold Veterans Day assemblies.

ELMHURST, IL — York Community High School, Churchville Middle School and Bryan Middle School will all hold Veterans Day assemblies to honor U.S. veterans, as well as current servicemen and women. According to a release from the district, York will hold is seventh annual all-school assembly on Friday, Nov. 10. Veterans and servicemen and women are invited to come and be honored in the Campbell Gym.
The assembly at York will begin at 8 a.m. and will include speeches from selected veterans, as well as York students and administrators. Veterans are encouraged to arrive at 7:15 a.m. for coffee, pastries and bagels in the high school’s Yorker Room, 355 W. St. Charles Road.
York Student Council will also serve a free breakfast to American veterans and their families/friends from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11, in the school's cafeteria. Contact York Student Council Advisor Matt Moran if you are interested in attending the assembly, the breakfast or both. Churchville Middle School will also hold its ninth annual assembly on Friday, Nov. 10 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the school, 155 Victor Parkway. Veterans and their families are welcome to join the assembly. You can RSVP to prichey@elmhurst205.org or call (630) 832-8682 ext. 3949.
According to the district, Bryan Middle School is planning a variety of activities for Veterans Day 2017, including writing thank-you postcards to veterans at Hines VA Hospital, a display of artifacts from veterans related to Bryan staff members, and a writing contest based on the prompt “Why do we honor veterans?”

In addition there will be a Veterans Recognition Breakfast on Nov. 10 from 7:30 to 8:15 a.m., sponsored by the Bryan PTA and KIDS Leadership group, with music from the school’s orchestra. From 8:45 to 9:45 a.m., the Recognition Assembly will honor local veterans, with Bruce Harkin serving as keynote speaker. Bryan Boy Scouts will present and retire the flag; the band and chorus will perform patriotic music and the winning essays will be read. All interested veterans are invited to attend.
