Domestic Violence, Park Theft: Elmhurst Police
A man was alleged to have attacked two people in a domestic disturbance, report says.
ELMHURST, IL — In the last few days, Elmhurst police responded to cases involving a domestic disturbance, a theft at a skate park, a solicitor without a license, DUIs and drugs. Here is information from the reports:
Domestic violence
- Charles Gammill, 32, of Harvard, was arrested shortly after 2 p.m. Thursday in the 100 block of North Elm on two counts of domestic battery. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail. According to a police report, a victim told an officer that Gammill grabbed him by the throat and pushed a woman. Gammill left before officers arrived, but was later found and taken into custody.
Theft

- A person said he left his personal belongings unattended about 5:30 p.m. Thursday on a bench in the skate park, 665 S. York St. The victim said he saw two boys approach his belongings and then leave on bikes. The victim then realized his Apple Airpods were taken. He chased after the youths. The boys were described as Hispanic, about 5 feet, 10 inches, and 15 or 16 years old. An investigation continues.
- A political sign was stolen overnight Thursday in the 300 block of Yorkfield Avenue. The police did not indicate the message on the sign.
Flag stolen
- A resident in the 300 block of West Grantley Avenue witnessed a neighbor's rainbow flag being stolen about 8 p.m. Thursday. The person took the flag and left in a maroon four-door sedan. An officer met with the victim, who was also missing a rainbow windsock from the front of the house. The suspect was described as white, 17 to 19 years old, and having a thin build. The flag was later found on Spring Road.
Damage

- A victim in the 100 block of Maple reported that cars were egged Oct. 10, causing paint damage. The incident was reported Saturday.
- A city street light was damaged Saturday in the 400 block of South Kenilworth, causing it to lean over the sidewalk. Public works was notified.
Soliciting without license
- Tywan Locke, 21, of Chicago, was cited at 1 p.m. Thursday at East Third and North Berteau on a charge of soliciting without a license. He was released on bond.
DUI
- Shenita Robins, 34, of Villa Park, was arrested shortly before 3 a.m. Saturday at West Roosevelt and Route 83 on charges of DUI, improper lane usage, failure to dim headlights and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. She was released on bond.
- Wilson Reyes, 41, of Chicago, was arrested at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at North and York on charges of DUI, driving with a suspended license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and improper lane usage. He was released on bond.
- Arthur Mendoza, 27, of Chicago, was arrested about 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Route 83 and North on charges of DUI (drugs), unlawful possession of marijuana by a driver, illegal transportation of alcohol, disobeying a traffic control signal and improper lane usage. He was released on bond. After an accident, Mendoza admitted to consuming two shots of alcohol, smoking marijuana and taking one Adderall pill without a prescription, according to a police report.
Drugs
- Jay Bowens, 51, of Chicago, was arrested about 12:30 a.m. Friday at South Route 83 and South Riverside on charges of possession of a controlled substance (heroin), possession of drug paraphernalia, obstructing identification, failure to wear a seat belt, driving with a revoked license, operating an uninsured vehicle, driving with one headlight and having a loud muffler. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail.
Driving violations
- June Irmas, 96, of Elmhurst, was cited shortly before noon Thursday at West Randolph and Berkley on charges of improper turn and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. She was released on bond.
- Anna Jimenez, 36, of Chicago, was cited about 10:30 p.m. Thursday at West North and North Addison on charges of unlawful use of marijuana in a motor vehicle. She was released on bond.
- Adam Perez, 23, of Stone Park, was cited at 11 p.m. Friday at East North and Melrose on charges of unlawful possession of marijuana by a driver and speeding. He was released on bond.
- Three 24-year-olds from Cicero were cited in a stop shortly before midnight Friday at West Roosevelt and Route 83. Nicolas Olivares was cited on a charge of illegal transportation of alcohol. Adrian Nodal was cited on charges of illegal transportation of alcohol and unlawful possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle. Eddie Lozada was cited on charges of operating an uninsured motor vehicle and speeding. They were released on bond.
- Akia Fox, 22, of Chicago, was cited at 1 a.m. Saturday at North York and Industrial on charges of possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle and tinted windows. She was released on bond.
- Ronald Wilson, 31, of Chicago, was arrested at 2:30 a.m. Saturday at Addison and North on a Kane County Sheriff's Office warrant and on charges of unlawful possession of a controlled substance and disobeying a traffic control device. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail.
- Candice N. Williams, 31, of Chicago, was cited at 1 a.m. Sunday at Fair and St. Charles on a charge of driving with a suspended license. She was released on bond. According to a police report, an officer stopped Williams because a database indicated her car had been stolen. Actually, it should not have been in the database. Elmhurst police contacted Chicago police, who indicated they were told to cancel the car in question from the database but had not done so.
Odds and ends
- A customer at Jewel-Osco, 153 E. Schiller St., told an officer her purse was missing after she shopped there about 2 p.m. Wednesday. An officer reviewed video surveillance, which showed the woman had the purse in her possession as she left the store.
- An officer tried to stop a driver at 1 a.m. Saturday for failure to signal at York and Lake. The driver sped away and was last seen heading east on Interstate 290.
Police report information is provided by local police departments. Charges are not evidence of guilt. They are a record of police actions on a given day, and persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
