Drunk Worker, Gift Card Scam: Elmhurst Cops
An intoxicated employee showed up for work, but it was determined she could not safely remain on duty, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving a drunk employee, a gift card scam, a problem passenger, a FOID card, a ticket under question and threats. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:
Drunk employee
- An employee showed up for work Sunday afternoon at Thorntons convenience store, 476 N. York St., but appeared disoriented. An officer found she was intoxicated and unable to safely work at the store. She was released to the care of her mother.

- CVS Pharmacy, 110 W. North Ave., told police that a woman bought Apple gift cards and was attempting to email the information on them to a stranger. Officers advised the woman not to send the card information and spoke to her daughter, who secured her mother's accounts.
Problem passenger
- An Uber driver called police after picking up a man in Lombard and taking him to the 400 block of West St. Charles Road in Elmhurst about 9:30 p.m. Sunday. The passenger fell asleep in the car and appeared to be intoxicated. He was taken to Elmhurst Hospital.
Ticket under question

- A man told police Thursday that he received a traffic citation from an officer on a date and time when he was not driving the car in question. Upon investigation, police learned the victim's brother gave officers the man's information. The ticket was given July 9. Charges are pending.
Giving up FOID card
- A man went to the Elmhurst police station to surrender his Illinois firearm owner's identification card, or FOID, and a box of ammunition Thursday. All the items were entered into evidence.
Threats
- A resident in the 1000 block of South Spring Road told police Thursday that she received threatening text messages the previous five days from a stranger requesting gift cards.
