Elmhurst 11-Year-Old Competes On 'Top Chef Jr.'
11-year-old Fernando Valdes-Nicholson will compete on the show.

ELMHURST, IL — An Elmhurst 11-year-old will compete to be the best on a new TV show on Universal Kids, "Top Chef Jr." Fernando Valdes-Nicholson is one of 12 kid chefs that will compete on the new show, which premieres at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 13.
Top Chef Jr. features Vanessa Lachey as the host, and chef Curtis Stone as a judge.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Valdes-Nicholson uses math and science to help him in the kitchen. Another Chicago-area native on the show is 13-year-old Naperville resident Henry Fernando. Entertainment Weekly reported that Fernando has been cooking since age 10 and regularly attends culinary classes at Sur La Table.

The show is premiering on Universal Kids, which was previously the Sprout Network. Universal Kids features programming for kids ages 2-12.
