Students Celebrate All Things Math on Pi Day

Pi Day is an annual celebration of the mathematical constant π and is observed on March 14 since 3, 1, and 4 are the first three significant digits of π. The Lakeview and Woodland students at Elmhurst Academy celebrated all things math with a visit from The DuPage Children’s Museum. This program, Math In Action, is an interactive, hands-on program that integrates various mathematical concepts such as cardinality, number operations in base ten, measurement and date, geometry and so much more. Over a dozen different activities and centers, many of which required collaborative play, were set up to reinforce these math concepts. By using objects that the children can relate to and that are familiar to them, they are more comfortable practicing the concepts that are so vital to their future math success.
