ELMHURST, IL — An Elmhurst alderman is running as a Republican for DuPage County Board.

Ward 2 Alderman Bob Dunn is seeking one of the three District 1 seats on the board. He is taking part as a candidate in Elmhurst's St. Patrick's Day Parade on Saturday.

Dunn represents Ward 2, which is in Elmhurst's northwest corner.

In an interview with Patch on Thursday, Dunn cited his 11 years of experience on the Council. He has served on all four of the council's committees. Now, he is heading the finance committee.

"I want to contribute positively to the county and its residents," Dunn said. "I want to scrutinize what we spend our funds on and make government even more effective."

He is the vice chairman of the Fly Quiet Committee, a part of the O'Hare Noise Compatibility Commission. The committee, he said, has made much progress.

"That gave me more of a regional focus to the constituency out there, not just thinking about Elmhurst or the second ward," Dunn said. "That's another reason why I felt I could represent the area."

Dunn is the board president for the nonprofit Council of International Programs. For work, he is a supply chain executive for an agricultural company.

The Democratic and Republican primaries for County Board and other offices are June 28. The filing deadline for candidates is March 14.

Elmhurst's Pete DiCianni, a Republican and a former mayor, is leaving as a District 2 County Board member to run for board chairman. Another Elmhurst resident, DuPage County Board Chairman Dan Cronin, a Republican, is not running again after nearly a dozen years in the position.

In last April's mayoral election, Dunn was among four aldermen who endorsed fellow Alderman Scott Levin for mayor. Levin defeated two rivals to take the helm.

After Levin took office, he named Dunn as chairman of the finance committee.

Dunn has lived in Elmhurst for 15 years.
