Elmhurst Art Show Celebrates Chicago Architecture

Jack Nixon's work reflects late 19th and early 20th century architectural styles.

ELMHURST, IL — A display of monumental grandeur is coming to Elmhurst this March, according to a news release. The Elmhurst Artists Guild is hosting "Classic Chicago: The Art of Architecture," an exhibition of large-scale, detailed graphite drawings by Jack Nixon.

While practicing draughtsmanship and graphite rendering, Jack Nixon documents grand urban landscapes and vignettes of Chicago’s buildings, monuments, and decorative stone fragments, the news release said. His work glorifies the city’s late 19th and early 20th century Neoclassic, Gothic Revival, and Art Deco architectural styles and displays a sense of composition and space.

The exhibit takes place in the guild's gallery at the Elmhurst Art Museum, 150 S. Cottage Hill Ave., from Sunday, March 1, through Friday, March 27. Admission to the Elmhurst Art Guild Gallery is free; however, there is an admission charge if you wish to see the Elmhurst Art Museum during your visit.
