Elmhurst Business Vows Access To Hydrant

It was the business' second warning from the police in seven months.

ELMHURST, IL – Win Auto Plaza responded to the latest "chronic nuisance" warning from Elmhurst police. It was about a car parked in front of a fire hydrant.

"After speaking with the city inspector and police officer regarding the violation, Win Auto Plaza will ensure open access to the fire hydrant," Win Auto Plaza's Rafal Winkowski said in an undated letter to the city.

On June 19, police issued the warning to Win Auto Plaza, 704 W. Lake St., after it received a report of a boat parked in the street. While there, police issued a citation for a car parked in front of a fire hydrant.

The last such nuisance warning was issued Dec. 7. That was after an employee crashed into a house while on a test drive, police said.

If three or more nuisance activities occur within 180 days of the crash, the owners may be charged under a city ordinance. They must appear before an administrative hearing officer if they are charged, he said.

If the property is found to be a chronic nuisance, the owners could be charged $500 to $1,000 for each violation.
