Elmhurst College To Perform Japanese Music
The performance will also include music from popular Japanese movies.
ELMHURST, IL — The Elmhurst College Philharmonic Orchestra will perform music from Japan during the World Music concert on Thursday, March 19.
Led by the orchestra’s new director, Taka Matsunaga, the concert will feature a variety of traditional Japanese music, along with music from popular Japanese movies. Kokyo Taiko, a Japanese drumming group from Chicago, and Kaori Ichinokawa, a licensed Koto master, also will perform, according to a college news release.
Matunaga joined the Elmhurst College faculty last fall. He is a member of the American String Teachers Association and is a founder and music director of the Midwest Philharmonic Orchestra. He has conducted in Vienna, Salzburg and Detroit, and at Chicago’s Symphony Center.
