Elmhurst Considers Fee For Homeowners
The city hired a consultant to look at options for a stormwater fee.

ELMHURST, IL – An Elmhurst committee on Monday plans to look at options for a stormwater fee for residents and business owners.
Last year, the city hired a consulting firm, Stantec, to examine such a fee for property owners. Officials said they needed more money to pay down debt for stormwater projects.
According to city documents, one of the options is three tiers for the fee based on impervious surfaces such as pavement, ranging from $110 to $244 a year.

Such a system is more complicated because the city must figure out the amount of impervious surface for each parcel. Such surfaces lead to more flooding.
The other option from the consultant is a uniform fee of $171 a year.

In an analysis last year, the city said it needed $3.5 million a year through the mid-2030s to meet the demands of the stormwater fund.
The consultant is set to get $41,000 for the study.
The City Council's Finance Committee plans to review the options at 7 p.m. Monday at City Hall, 209 N. York St.
