Elmhurst Cops Arrest Man Who Runs From Stolen Car: Police

The man was found hiding in a shed in a backyard in Villa Park, authorities said.

ELMHURST, IL – Elmhurst police arrested a man this week who they say was driving a car that was stolen in Chicago,

Maurice Sutton, 31, of Hanover Park, was charged with felony possession of a stolen vehicle and misdemeanor obstruction of a police officer. A DuPage County judge granted the state's request to keep Sutton in jail, police said.

Shortly before midnight Monday, an Elmhurst officer spotted a Ford Fusion heading south on Route 83 at St. Charles Road, according to a police news release.

Sutton proceeded onto Washington Street in Villa Park. When the officer activated his emergency lights, Sutton pulled into a driveway on Riverside Drive in Villa Park and ran toward backyards in the neighborhood, police said.

Elmhurst and Villa Park officers, with a K-9 unit and a drone, searched the neighborhood. Sutton was found hiding in a shed at a nearby house, according to the release.

Officers said they found another set of license plates and a replica pellet pistol in the car.

The car, which was impounded, was reported as stolen Oct. 14 to the Chicago police.
