Elmhurst Coronavirus: Gym Twice Found Open
Police give warning to business first time, then notify the city's economic development department, police say.
ELMHURST, IL — Elmhurst police twice have found a gym to be open for business in defiance of the governor's order requiring the closure of nonessential businesses, a police report says. The police department said the business is at 503 W. Third St., which is the site of the Going For Greatness gym.
The police saw the gym open for business Tuesday and Wednesday. It was given a warning the first time. The police have notified the city's economic development department of the violations, according to the police report.
Patch reviewed Going For Great's Facebook page. It includes regular videos of owner Rob Wienski's interviews of athletes and footage of them working out in the gym. These videos have even appeared in recent days. On Thursday, a day after the most recent police visit, an athlete was interviewed while a mostly obscured person could be seen in the background working out. The videos are listed as "live" in Elmhurst. It was unclear whether the gym was open to the public during filming.
