Elmhurst Couple Dream Up Sweet, Self-serve Treats

They're planning the opening of a new frozen yogurt shop in Glen Ellyn, just in time for summer.

An Elmhurst couple is opening a self-serve dessert shop, SkinnySweet Frozen Yogurt, in Glen Ellyn's Market Plaza (Roosevelt Road between Little Caesars and Panera Bread) this July.

Marianne Cielak-Boyke and her husband, Brett Boyke, are targeting young families who connect with a health-conscious treat that includes low-fat, no sugar added and is gluten-free.

The couple started working on their concept for after visiting Arizona, where they enjoyed frozen, self-serve yougurt with their three kids. Cielak-Boyke enjoyed it so much that she began working on a way to bring a similar concept to the suburbs.

A year ago, it was a tough sell convincing landlords to latch on to the concept, Cielak-Boyke said. Now, more landlords are open to it because they've heard about other, similar ventures.

The store will have a family-friendly atmosphere and will have more than 40 toppings and at least 12 frozen yogurt flavors for consumers to choose from.
