Elmhurst D-205's Virus Caseload About Same

An elementary school has nearly as many coronavirus cases as York High, according to the district's numbers.

ELMHURST, IL – The number of coronavirus cases among students at Elmhurst School District 205 dropped by one in the last week, to 113. That makes up 1.4 percent of the study body.

More than a week ago, York High School, with about 2,800 students, had 47 students testing positive for the coronavirus. But as of Friday, the number had dropped by more than half, to 19.

Of the local elementary and middle schools, Edison Elementary has the most coronavirus cases, at 18.

Among district employees, 23 had the coronavirus as of Friday, up from 21 the week before.

The district dropped its mask mandate in early February.

Since the beginning of the school year, the district has recorded 1,986 coronavirus cases among students and staff.

As of last Wednesday, Elmhurst Hospital reported 21 patients testing positive for the coronavirus. That's down from a record high of 105 in January.

In Elmhurst, the number of coronavirus cases has generally increased in the last few weeks. Last week, 201 cases were reported in the city, according to the DuPage County Health Department.

The city reached a weekly high of 599 in January.
