Elmhurst House Struck by Lightning, Attic Catches Fire
An Elmhurst home caught on fire due to a lightning strike Wednesday night.

ELMHURST, IL — An Elmhurst home caught on fire after being struck by lightning at 7:52 p.m. last night. Elmhurst Fire Department responded to the 300 block of North Walnut for a possible structure fire.
The homeowners said that the house shook and it sounded like a bomb went off, according to a release. The homeowners checked the house, which had a slight odor of smoke and called 911.
The department said when firefighters arrived, light smoke was visible coming out of the attic vents. They accessed the attic and extinguished the fire using five gallons of water.

According to a release, the damage was limited to the area of the lightning strike.
