Elmhurst Man Repeatedly Drops By Woman’s House: Cops

The man was charged after violating police requests to stay away, report says.

ELMHURST, IL – An Elmhurst man contacted his estranged wife three times in one night, even though police requested he refrain from doing so after the first instance.

The last time, police arrested him, as they said would happen.

Matthew R. Anderson, 40, who lives in the 500 block of Comstock Avenue, was charged with disorderly conduct. He lives about two blocks from his wife.

About 10 p.m. Aug. 5, three officers were called to a house in the 500 block of Fay Avenue because Anderson was in his wife’s driveway and became verbally aggressive, according to a police report obtained through a public records request. He pulled into the driveway in his Lexus and called her a "c---“ and said he caught her “red-handed.”

His wife and a man at the house told police they asked Anderson to leave repeatedly. At one point, Anderson got close to the man and said he was going to kill him, according to the report. Anderson was away from his wife’s house when police arrived.

In an interview with officers, Anderson said he never threatened anyone and only visited the house to figure out arrangements with his wife on when she was going to pick up their son, police said. Police helped Anderson confirm that he would drop off the child at 7 a.m. the next day. He was told not to go to his wife’s house or contact her before then.

He apparently didn’t listen. An hour later, police were called to the woman’s house again because Anderson continued to call her and text her harassing messages, according to the report. She said she did not wish to press charges, but wanted him arrested if he contacted her again that night.

When officers went to Anderson’s house to relay the message, he was not there. He was seen walking back to his house sweating and out of breath, believed to be racing back from his wife’s house because a police dispatcher called him, the report said.

About 3 a.m. that morning, officers were called to the wife’s house. Anderson was in his Lexus in the driveway, according to the report. An officer pulled in directly behind the car, blocking him from leaving, police said.

His wife said she was inside the house when she heard someone banging on the door and yelling for her, according to the report. She wanted Anderson arrested.

Anderson told officers he wanted to drop off their son hours before the agreed-upon time, even though he was told not to return before 7 a.m., the report said.

He was taken into custody, then released on bond.

The next afternoon, a neighbor of the wife’s said she saw Anderson go by the wife’s house five or six times in the day starting at 6 a.m., according to the report. The neighbor said she was aware he was arrested the previous night. She said Anderson was yelling out of the car window, but she could not make out what he was saying.

Anderson has an active firearm owner’s identification card and said he owns guns, police said.
