Elmhurst Man Wakes Up, Sees His Car In Street: Cops
Residents reported car burglaries and thefts over two days earlier this week, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – An Elmhurst man woke up shortly before 5 a.m. Monday and saw his car in the middle of the street with someone inside, police said.
The man, who lives in the 500 block of North Walnut Street, called the police. Officers saw suspects' vehicles leave the area when they arrived.
The man reviewed video surveillance, which showed the suspects arrived and pulled on car door handles, police said.

The suspects' cars were described as a Volvo SUV, a dark SUV and a black car, possibly a Jeep, police said.
That was hardly the only such activity that night and the next one. Hinsdale police reported similar crimes about the same time and believed they were connected to what Elmhurst experienced.

Here's what Elmhurst police reported:
- A woman said someone entered her unlocked cars between 1 a.m. and 6 am. Monday in the 400 block of North Addison Avenue. Nothing was stolen.
- A man told police someone stole his car shortly before 5 a.m. in the 500 block of Walnut. It was unlocked with the keys inside. The car was later found in Chicago.
- A man said someone stole his car between 7 p.m. Sunday and 11 a.m. Monday in the 400 block of North Ridgeland Avenue. It was unlocked with the keys inside and was later found in Chicago.
- A resident in the 200 block of East Columbia Avenue reported someone was rummaging through cars. Nothing was stolen.
- A man told police someone entered his unlocked car and stole a garage door opener about 3 a.m. Monday in the 300 block of North Larch Avenue.
- Another resident in the 300 block of North Larch said someone entered his unlocked car and went through the glove compartment between 8:30 p.m. Sunday and 10 a.m. Monday.
- A third resident in the 300 block of North Larch said someone burglarized his car between 2 p.m. Monday and 6:30 a.m. Tuesday. A pair of prescription glasses was stolen.
- Someone entered cars in the 200 block of Grace Avenue between 10 p.m. Monday and 6 a.m. Tuesday. The person scattered the contents of the glove compartments and consoles throughout the cars' interiors. Nothing appeared to be stolen.
- A man in the 400 block of Emery Lane told police that someone entered his unlocked car and stole money from the center console. It happened between 7 p.m. Monday and 8 a.m. Wednesday.
