Elmhurst Park District Board Approves New Turf For Berens Park
Elmhurst Park District Board recently approved the renovation of the synthetic turf fields at Berens Park.

ELMHURST, IL — Elmhurst Park District Board recently approved the renovation of the synthetic turf fields at Berens Park. The current turf fields were installed in 2008 and are popular sites for soccer, football and lacrosse, the park district said. However, after ten years of use, replacement is necessary to continue to provide a safe and functional surface for play and to meet the high demand for field usage, by both the park district and affiliate athletic groups.
The board approved a bid of $896,333 from FieldTurf USA, Inc. at the Feb. 12 board meeting to renovate the synthetic turf fields. According to the park district, based on the district’s field use agreement, Elmhurst College is responsible for a quarter of the cost of the field replacement, making the cost distribution $672,249.75 for the park district and $224,083.25 for Elmhurst College.
The project will include the removal and replacement of approximately 171,000 square feet of synthetic turf and infill, replacement of failing nailer boards and the addition of two concrete bleacher pads, the park district said.
