Elmhurst Porch Piracy Suspect Arrested: Cops

In another case, a man was charged again for playing loud music, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving porch piracy, a nuisance, DUIs, falls, an abandoned car and lost items. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Porch piracy

  • A 38-year-old Chicago man was arrested Thursday on a charge of theft not exceeding $500 with a prior conviction. Police said he stole an Amazon package about 1:30 a.m. Dec. 9 from a porch in the 200 block of North Myrtle Avenue. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail.

Nuisance

  • A 65-year-old man who lives in the 700 block of South Saylor Avenue in Elmhurst was cited about 1:30 a.m. Thursday on a charge of creating a nuisance. Police said he was playing loud music. He has been repeatedly charged with the same offense.

DUI

  • A 66-year-old Bensenville woman was arrested about 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the 100 block of Grantley Avenue on charges of DUI, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and driving on the wrong side of the road. She was released.
  • A 37-year-old Addison man was arrested about 1 a.m. Sunday at North and Berteau avenues on charges of DUI and improper lane usage. He was released.
  • A 28-year-old Melrose Park man was arrested about 1:30 a.m. Sunday at Industrial and Grand avenues on charges of DUI, following too closely, improper lane usage, failure to signal when required, possession of alcohol and driving an uninsured car. He was released.

Harassment

  • A resident in the 300 block of West Kimbell told police Thursday that a person repeatedly tried to contact her after being told not to. An officer spoke with the suspect, who agreed to stop contacting the resident.
  • A resident in the 200 block of Walnut Street told police Saturday that a man was using various social media platforms and unknown phone numbers to harass her. He also contacted her friends and family. An investigation is pending.

Falls

  • Officers and medics responded to a drunk man who had fallen about 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Haven Road and Elmhurst Avenue. The man refused medical treatment and was released to the custody of his wife.
  • A woman told police she was walking from Villa Park to Stone Park, a 7-mile journey, about noon Sunday when she tripped and fell near North Avenue and West Avenue. She was taken to the hospital. An officer found no tripping hazards.

Abandoned car

  • An unoccupied car with a smashed window was found about 5:30 a.m. Sunday in the middle of the road near Emroy and Columbia. The car was registered in Chicago. It was impounded.

Lost items

  • A driver's license, work identification and several business cards were found about 10 a.m. Sunday scattered on the pavement near Third and Berteau. The owner went to the police station and retrieved his property.
