Elmhurst Sports Club Target Of Phishing Scam: Police

In another case, a woman was charged with aggravated DUI after backing up into an officer's car, authorities said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving a phishing scam, aggravated DUI, burglary, retail theft, disorderly conduct and theft. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Phishing scam

  • A woman told police Monday that she believed that the president of the York Hockey Club asked her to send a payment to a vendor. She sent the money and then realized she was the victim of a phishing scam. An investigation is pending.

Aggravated DUI

  • Brandy Tamez, 33, of Willowbrook, was arrested Sunday on two counts of aggravated DUI and counts of endangering the life of a child, improper backing of a vehicle, improper lane usage and child restraint violation. The incident occurred about 10:30 p.m. Aug. 3 at Route 83 and Roosevelt Road. After the woman stopped for the officer, she reversed into the officer's squad car. She was taken to the DuPage County Jail.

Burglary

  • Lennard Victor, 54, of Chicago, was arrested about 5 p.m. Monday at Al Piemonte Buick, 364 W. Grand Ave., on charges of identity theft, forgery and burglary. Police said a woman reported receiving notifications that her Social Security number was being used and multiple credit inquiries were being conducted. Officers were later informed that Victor was using fictitious documents to buy a car at the local dealership. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail.

Retail theft

  • Lidia Rodriguez-Mota, 34, and Reyna Flores-Arenas, 27, both of Elgin, were arrested about 5 p.m. Wednesday at Kohl's, 303 S. Route 83, on charges of retail theft and burglary. Police said the women were seen on surveillance cameras leaving the store with stolen merchandise. They were taken to the DuPage County Jail.

Fugitive drivers

  • About 2:30 a.m. Monday at Butterfield Road and Interstate 209, an officer tried to stop a driver suspected of fleeing and eluding an officer in Oakbrook Terrace. The driver sped away, last seen heading east on I-290.
  • About 4 a.m. Monday at North and Berteau avenues, an officer tried to stop a car that was reported stolen in Chicago. The driver sped away, heading east on I-290.

Disorderly conduct

  • A woman told police Monday that a suspect often becomes angry and makes threatening statements while she visits her husband at The Indigo at Elmhurst assisted living facility, 123 W. Brush Hill Road.

Theft

  • A resident in the 400 block of South Stratford Avenue told police Wednesday that money was missing from his wallet and that he was notified of unauthorized transactions on his credit card. He suspected his fill-in caregiver stole his money. An investigation is pending.
  • Someone stole scrap metal Friday from Visser Heating and Air, 168 W. Grand Ave. An investigation is pending.
  • An unlocked orange Trek Marlin mountain bicycle was stolen between 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. Tuesday at Starbucks, 164 N. York St. An investigation is pending.

Suspicious

  • Officers were called about a man in a white Buick LeSabre speaking to a child about 3 p.m. Wednesday near Utley Road and West Avenue. The suspect was stopped, and it was determined that he had spoken with a college-age woman. An investigation is pending.
