Two Elmhurst Students Awarded College-Sponsored National Merit Scholarships

Two Elmhurst students were awarded National Merit Scholarships for their chosen colleges.

ELMHURST, IL — Two Elmhurst students have been awarded college-sponsored National Merit Scholarships. The National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced more than 3,200 winners of scholarships financed by U.S. colleges and universities, according to a release.

The two Elmhurst students awarded scholarships are:

  • Ian Crowell, Fenwick High School. Probable career field: mechanical engineering. Crowell was awarded the National Merit Boston University Scholarship.
  • Maria Muehleis, York Community High School. Probable career field: chemical engineering. Muehleis was awarded the National Merit University of Minnesota Scholarship.

Officials of each sponsor college selected their scholarship winners from among the finalists in the 2017 National Merit Scholarship Program who plan to attend their institution, according to a release. These awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution financing the scholarship.
