Elmhurst Symphony Concert: Tchaikovsky's Pathetique November 10

In a concert of music to stir your soul, the Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of Music Director and Conductor Stephen Alltop, continues its 59th season with Tchaikovsky’s Pathétique on Sunday, November 10 at 3:00 p.m. at Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church. Filled with familiar melodies, Tchaikovsky’s beloved Symphony No. 6 in B minor (Pathétique) is one of the most expressive and moving musical works ever written and was the composer’s final testimony to his art and life.

The concert also features award-winning sibling violin virtuosi Isabella and Joshua Brown. Isabella Brown recently won third place in the Cooper International Competition sponsored by the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and The Cleveland Orchestra and performed with the Orchestra in a concert following the competition. She will play Dvořák’s rhapsodic Romance in F minor with the ESO.

Joshua Brown, an Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra Stanger Audition winner while in high school, has won numerous national and international competitions, including the Mozart International Competition in Germany this summer. At that event he also won the Audience Award, the Chairman of the Jury Special Prize, the Kronberg Academy Special Prize, and the CD Production Special Prize. He also performed twice with the Munich Radio Orchestra while in Germany. Joshua Brown will conclude the concert with the vibrant Violin Concerto No. 2 in G minor by Prokofiev. Sparks will fly!

This concert is underwritten by generous gifts from Loretta Kalina (the Tchaikovsky symphony), Darlene Van Meir (the Prokofiev work), and Raita Vilnins (Joshua Brown’s performance.)

Group and family rates are also available. The concert experience at ECRC is enhanced by the informative and lively discussion, Behind the Music Stand, led by audience favorite Dr. Ted Hatmaker, which takes place at 1:45 p.m. prior to the concert.
