ELMHURST, IL – The Elmhurst City Council plans to vote Tuesday on whether to increase the sales tax rate by half a percentage point to pay for past and upcoming stormwater projects.

Under the proposal, the increase would take effect Jan. 1 and expire a decade later.

In a memo, the council's finance committee pointed to stormwater projects around Elmhurst that it says directly benefitted 473 homes and businesses over the last 10 years and helped reduce or eliminate flooding throughout town.
