Elmhurst Tenant Wants His 4 Guns Back: Cops

In another incident, a car was stolen from a driveway in a local neighborhood, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving missing guns, aggravated battery, retail theft, a disturbance and car theft. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Missing guns

  • A renter in the 200 block of South Oakland Grove told police Wednesday he was evicted July 4, but was unable to remove his belongings. The landlord hired a junk removal service to clear whatever was left behind. The renter said four guns were among the items removed. He had no serial numbers.

  • Someone stole a white 2023 Chrysler 300 while it was parked in a driveway overnight Tuesday in the 600 block of West Belden Avenue.

Aggravated battery

  • A victim told police that while visiting her sister at Elmhurst Hospital, 155 E. Brush Hill Road, her nephew became upset and yelled and spat at the victim. The victim tried to get out of her chair, but the nephew became aggressive. An investigation is pending. The incident was about 5 p.m. Sunday.

  • A 24-year-old Franklin Park man was arrested about 9 a.m. Tuesday on charges of theft, criminal damage, obstructing identification, driving with a suspended license, driving without a seatbelt, failure to signal when required, driving an uninsured car and improper display of registration. This was in connection with a theft at a house in the 100 block of South West Avenue. The man was released. Police said he stole a chair from the front porch and then fled in a white van. Patch wrote about the arrest earlier this week.
  • A catalytic converter was stolen between Aug. 9 and Sept. 9 from a car at Elmhurst Extended Care Center nursing home, 200 E. Lake St. An investigation is pending.

Retail theft

  • A 68-year-old Hillside woman was arrested Monday on a retail theft charge. Police said she selected three boxes of wine and then went to the self-checkout counter at Jewel, 944 S. York St. She paid for one box and concealed the other two in her purse. She was released and given a no-trespass notice.
  • Three women stole bags of chips and several bottles of alcohol about noon Monday at Jewel, 944 S. York St. An investigation is pending. The women were described as black and having large builds. One wore a white or light blue shirt and light blue jeans. The second had long braided hair and wore a white and gray shirt and white shorts. The third had shorter hair and wore a green outfit.

Disturbance

  • A person was verbally combative with staff at McKenna Dental, 501 S. York St. The person was asked to leave several times. The incident occurred about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. The person was given a no-trespass notice.

Suspicious

  • An incident involving suspicious circumstances was reported to have occurred about 6:30 a.m. Wednesday at Hawthorne Elementary School, 145 W. Arthur St. An investigation is pending. Police provided no other information.
