Former Blackhawk Brent Sopel To Visit York HS

His presentation is most appropriate for students sixth grade and up.

ELMHURST, IL — The City of Elmhurst Commission on Youth will welcome Brent Sopel, former Chicago Blackhawk Stanley Cup champion, on Wednesday, Oct. 25, beginning at 7 p.m. in York High School's Campbell Gym. His presentation is most appropriate for students sixth grade and up.

According to the district, Sopel will discuss his own hidden challenges in his presentation "Behind the Stick - Lost in My Mind." The battles Brent fought on the ice left visible scars, but the invisible wounds he suffered cut deeper. Brent's personal story has directed him toward a path of advocating for others who are struggling with similar obstacles. As a result, Brent’s mission is to be: A champion for Dyslexia and Dysgraphia awareness, for alcohol and drug addiction recovery, and for youth training and mentoring.
