Frequent Shoplifting Cases At Elmhurst Store

The city plans to take a step to combat the crime in this area.

ELMHURST, IL – Police are called to Kohl's for shoplifting cases more than any other store in Elmhurst.

During the holiday season, officers responded to the clothing store for retail thefts repeatedly. In some cases, suspects stole so much that they were charged with felonies.

On Monday night, an Elmhurst City Council committee plans to review an agreement to install three automated license plate reader cameras at Brixmor Elmhurst Crossing shopping center.

The center, which is northeast of Route 83 and St. Charles Road, includes Kohl's, Whole Foods, At Home, Petco and Shoe Carnival.

Elmhurst is getting the money for the readers through an attorney general's grant to combat organized retail theft, according to a city memo last week.

The license plate readers would be in a private parking lot.

Brixmor, the memo said, is appreciative of the crime prevention partnership.

In November, Elmhurst aldermen discussed the deployment of cameras.
