Live Results: Illinois' 8th Congressional District; Krishnamoorthi Projected Dem Nominee [Updated]
The Streamwood lawyer will try to keep the district seat formerly held by Tammy Duckworth under Democratic control.

Raja Krishnamoorthi, a Streamwood lawyer and businessman, is the projected winner of Tuesday's Democratic primary election for Illinois' 8th Congressional District, a seat recently held by Tammy Duckworth, according to reports.

Krishnamoorthi, president of Sivananthan Labs & Episolar Inc., was named the unofficial Democratic nominee by the Chicago Tribune and WMAQ-TV (Channel 5) with 378 of 465 district precincts reporting in. He captured 58.4 percent of the vote, defeating two other party challengers:
- Villa Park Mayor Deb Bullwinkel (13.1 percent)
- State Sen. Mike Noland (28.5 percent)
Krishnamoorthi will face DuPage County Commissioner Peter DiCianni, the Republican nominee, and Schaumburg high school teacher Bill Fraser, an independent, third-party candidate, in the Nov. 8 general election.

Duckworth stepped down from the 8th District post in order to run for U.S. Senate. She will face Republican incumbent Sen. Mark Kirk in November.
UPDATED (8:22 p.m. Tuesday, March 15): With 79 of 465 precincts reporting, Streamwood attorney and businessman Raja Krishnamoorthi had the early lead to become the Democratic nominee who will try keep the party's control of Illinois' 8th Congressional District, a seat recently held by Tammy Duckworth, the Chicago Tribune reports.
Krishnamoorthi had 61.8 percent of the vote, followed by Elgin State Sen. Mike Noland (26.8 percent) and Villa Park Mayor Deb Bullwinkel (11.4 percent).
The winner of Tuesday's primary will face DuPage County Commissioner Peter DiCianni, the Republican nominee, and Schaumburg high school teacher Bill Fraser, an independent, third-party candidate, in November's general election.

Three Democratic candidates are battling in Tuesday's primary to see who will be their party's chance to keep control of the state's 8th Congressional District with incumbent Tammy Duckworth making a U.S. Senate run.
The Democratic hopefuls on the ballot include:
- Deb Bullwinkel, Villa Park mayor
- Raja Krishnamoorthi, Streamwood lawyer and president of Sivananthan Labs & Episolar Inc.
- Mike Noland, state senator from Elgin
The winner of Tuesday's primary will face DuPage County Commissioner Peter DiCianni, the Republican nominee, and Schaumburg high school teacher Bill Fraser, an independent, third-party candidate, in November's general election.
The 8th District represents Chicago's north suburbs in Kane, DuPage and Cook counties, including communities such as Palatine, Elgin, Schaumburg and Lombard.
Illinois is an open-primary state, which means voters don't have to be registered with a party to participate. Polling places will be open until 7 p.m., and voters in line by that time can cast a ballot. Go to the website for the Illinois State Board of Elections for more information.
