Bond denied for suspect who is accused of shooting man walking his dog, authorities say.
ELMHURST, IL — A suspect who has been charged in the shooting of a man in Elmhurst's Butterfield Park neighborhood was denied bond Saturday, the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office announced. Alec Gonzales, 21, who has residences in Elmhurst and Mesa, Ariz., was taken into custody in Arizona on June 25. Local authorities returned him to DuPage County on Friday afternoon.
In a news release Saturday, the state's attorney identified the victim as 55-year-old Greg Caraballo, who was said to be walking his dog when he was shot.
According to Elmhurst police, the shooting happened shortly before 9 p.m. May 14 in the 800 block of South Linden Avenue. When police arrived, they found Caraballo suffering from gunshot wounds. The state's attorney said Gonzales struck Caraballo four times with a Bushmaster AR-15 semiautomatic rifle. Gonzales then left for Arizona, authorities said.
