Man Kicks Officer At Elmhurst Store: Cops

The highly intoxicated man is also accused of pushing an employee, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving aggravated battery, felony retail theft, DUI, damage, a chronic nuisance and fraud. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Aggravated battery

  • Jan Balak, 54, of Franklin Park, was arrested about 9 a.m. Monday at Jewel, 153 E. Schiller St., on charges of aggravated battery to a police officer, criminal property damage, resisting arrest and battery. Police said a highly intoxicated Balak refused to leave Jewel. He is accused of pushing an employee and kicking an officer in the leg. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail.

Felony retail theft

  • Natalie C. Kalina, 40, of Orland Park, was arrested about 9 p.m. Tuesday at Walgreens Pharmacy, 160 N. Robert Palmer Drive, on charges of felony retail theft (two counts), unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and unlawful possession of a controlled substance. She was also arrested on a Grundy County warrant. She was taken to the DuPage County Jail. In the same incident, a 58-year-old Justice man was arrested on charges of unlawful possession of a controlled substance and retail theft. He was released.

DUI

  • A 28-year-old Elmhurst man who lives in the 400 block of South Argyle Avenue was arrested about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday at West and Armitage avenues on charges of DUI (drugs), no valid driver's license and disobeying a stop sign. He was taken to the police station and then released.

Damage

  • About 2 a.m. Saturday, someone kicked out the storm door of a house in the 500 block of South Washington Street. The kick caused the glass panel to fall out of its frame. Suspects ran to a car and headed north on Washington. An investigation is pending.

Chronic nuisance

  • A chronic nuisance warning was issued Tuesday to a property owner in the 100 block of South Kenmore Avenue. This is in connection with an alleged incident Sunday in which a man punched a police officer.

Fraud

  • A resident in the 300 block of South Hillside Avenue told police Wednesday that she received a notification that her computer was compromised and that she needed to contact a representative. The representative requested payment to clean up her computer. The resident complied and sent a check. The resident later realized it was a scam, so she contacted her bank to cancel the check and close the account.
