ELMHURST, IL – The Elmhurst City Council welcomed three new aldermen Monday night. A fourth was away for a couple of years, but he's a known quantity.

The new members are Karen Sienko in Ward 2, Guido Nardini in Ward 6 and Rex Irby in Ward 7, all winning seats in the April 4 election.

Michael Bram, who ran unopposed, is returning as a Ward 3 alderman, a job he held for two decades. He lost his race for mayor in 2021, which is when his council term expired.

Two incumbents, Ward 4's Noel Talluto and Ward 5's James Nudera, ran unopposed. Ward 1's Jennifer Veremis fended off two opponents.

The council is made up of 14 members, with two from each ward.

Much of Monday's council meeting was pomp and circumstance, starting with a police and fire honor guard presenting the colors.

Each official took the oath of office individually, with family on hand.

Bram went a different way. The day before, he took to Facebook to ask his constituents to join him for his swearing-in ceremony.

Thirteen gathered with him when Mayor Scott Levin administered the oath. The mayor asked whether Bram wanted to identify those with him.

Bram responded, "These are all my dear friends that are just like family for me."

With the new term, Ward 2's Bob Dunn, Ward 3's Dannee Polomsky, Ward 6's Mike Honquest and Ward 7's Mark Mulliner are no longer on the council. The first three decided against running again, while Mulliner narrowly lost to Irby.
